Opting to field first on a fine late summer's afternoon, captain Nick Jones led by example holding onto two decent catches to help reduce the Dragons to 78-6 at the halfway mark. The first twenty overs had seen the Green literally grasp every opportunity to take a wicket, with all six dismissals caught, Tony Fuller outdoing his captain by taking two stupendous catches above his head.
Unfortunately the midpoint drinks appeared to be laced with hubris, as Pinkneys swiftly grassed four more catches which were rather more regulation than their predecessors. Bowler Will Heyes was the victim of this outbreak of butterfingers leading to his fine economy being accompanied by a solitary wicket. This aberration also allowed the Dragons the opportunity to rebuild their innings with a century stand for the seventh wicket between Raj (41) and Akesh (56).
This enabled Southall to close their innings on 205-9, with Ben Snapes the pick of the bowlers taking 3-21.
Carrying on from where he left off last week, Tim Snapes quickly set about the Southall attack in partnership with his father Kevin. The opening pair swiftly created a platform for victory, putting on 131 for the first wicket before Snapes senior departed for 23. Snapes junior continued the onslaught, reaching his ton by the 19th over. Batting partner Andy Ryan chipped in with some cultured strokeplay in his cameo of 25*, as the Green reached the winning post with almost 15 overs to spare.
The win sees the Green continue their traditional late season run of Sunday good form. In the last three weeks they have lost a cumulative total of just 4 wickets in three successful chases of 200 or more. Tim Snapes has contributed with ever growing totals, yesterday's score of 142* following knocks of 130* and 76, with his team mates hoping he has one more innings left in his for his final appearance of the season next Sunday at Warfield.
